Two talented shortstops from a pair of prestigious programs are set to join the Bellingham Bells for the 2017 season. Brian Pozos from Division II national powerhouse Chico State and Kody Hoese from Tulane will suit up for Bellingham this summer.

“We are thrilled to welcome two talented infielders to the Bells roster in 2017,” Bells’ general manager Stephanie Morrell said. “Both Brian and Kody are players we anticipate will step in and make an immediate impact, offensively and defensively. Both come from strong programs and we anticipate them to bring leadership, depth and skill to the 2017 roster.”

Pozos, originally from Burbank, Calif., is in his first season with the Wildcats after transferring from the University of Portland. Over two seasons with the Pilots, Pozos scored 10 runs and appeared in 46 games. Prior to his collegiate days, Pozos received first team All-Pacific League and second team All-CIF honors following his senior season at Burroughs High School in Burbank. This season Chico State is off to a 19-4 start, with Pozos appearing in 10 games, scoring five runs and holding a 100 percent steal percentage on the young season.

“Brian is a player who finds a way to get on base and score runs,” Morrell said. “He also brings maturity to the clubhouse as an older player who has experience playing at the Division I & II levels. We can’t wait for Brian to be a Bell this summer.”

Hoese, originally from Griffith, Indiana, was a four-year letterman and three-year captain at Griffith High School before joining the Green Wave. At Griffith, Hoese was twice named to All-Region and All-Indiana teams. As a senior, Hoese led the Panthers to a regional championship, batting .400 with 14 doubles, four home runs, 30 runs batted in and 20 stolen bases. Prep Baseball Report tapped Hoese the top shortstop in the State, while Perfect Game USA named Hoese as one of the top 20 players in Indiana and in the top 500 in the nation. In 2017 with Tulane, the freshman has appeared nine times, earning six starts and lacing two doubles.

“Kody is known as a player who can really hit,” Morrell said. “He possesses the power and skill necessary to compete against West Coast League pitching, and I think he is going to be a player Bells’ fans are going to love cheering for this summer!”Hoese, Pozos and the 2017 Bells open the regular season against the Gresham GreyWolves on June 2
