Team Invites Area Bands, Musicians To Be Among World’s Largest Group To Simultaneously Perform the National Anthem
(February 14, York, Pa.) — O say can you see yourself setting a world record? The York Revolution will offer that opportunity to area musicians on Opening Day of the 2017 season.
The team announced today that its first promotion of the 2017 season will center on an attempt at a certified world record for the largest number of musicians performing the national anthem. Before its first home game on Friday, April 28, the team will welcome area high school bands, alumni of those bands, professional musicians, and others for a carefully documented attempt to become the largest group of musical performers to play the “Star Spangled Banner” at the same time.
Participants in the attempt will receive tickets to the day’s game against the Somerset Patriots for just $4 each, as well as a commemorative pin. Groups of friends and family members supporting the would-be record setters will also enjoy extremely discounted tickets.
“York and the people of this area are very experienced in making history,” said York Revolution President Eric Menzer. “What better way to mark the return of the great America pastime then with another historic, patriotic moment in the heart of this great city.”
Menzer noted, however, that the success of the effort will depend a great deal on spreading the word about the attempt.
“If you know a musician, band member, or musical director, please let them know we want them on the field with us on April 28.”
Interested musicians and their supporters can sign up for the record attempt and discounted tickets by calling Reed Gunderson at (717) 801-4498, emailing him at [email protected], or visiting www.yorkrevolution.com/worldrecord/.
The 6:30 p.m. game on Friday, April 28, against the Somerset Patriots will kick off the Revolution’s 11th season, following the success of the 2016 season, which saw the first half Freedom Division Champion Revolution advance to the playoffs before losing to the eventual Atlantic League Champion Sugar Land Skeeters.
