Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum has undergone $63.5 million worth of renovations, making history in the process. The 48-year-old building originally had the court running north-south but under the new setup, the floor has been turned 90 degrees running east-west which made room for a new sideline club that extends into the seating bowl – something new in a college basketball arena.
The new layout also makes space for the Clemson Coliseum Club that ties to 400 premium seats. Joe Simon stated he’s not aware of any other club in college athletics where you look up and see arena seating and not the club seating.
As of mid-October, just weeks before opening game, they have sold out almost all of the club seats, lodge seats, and sideline seats- the highest costing $250,000 over a five year period plus the cost of season tickets. All premium seats include a variety of food and beverage services.
The space also includes a 10,000 square-foot gallery, the Burton Gallery, which can be reserved for special events. It was originally an old operations space that was hidden to the public eye.
According to Simon, all renovations were done by, “using the existing structure in the most economical and sensible way possible”.
